Gum diseases are also known as periodontal disease. If you are under control of this disease, you must take care of your gums. The first stage of gum/periodontal disease is gingivitis. This common dental problem is usually the result of neglecting to floss your tooth regularly.

Tooth Decay

Tooth decay is one of the most common dental diseases which affect millions of people worldwide. The development of cavities is the result of tooth decay. Which is caused by failure to brush your teeth after consuming sizeable quantities of sugars, acidic foods and beverages. Therefore, these substances perforate enamel, which later allows the proliferation of cavity causing bacteria.

Symptoms of Tooth decay:

  • Sharp, localized pain around the affected tooth, even if you are not chewing.
  • Grey or brown colored spots appearing on the surface of teeth.
  • Difficulty chewing food due to sensitivity.
  • Swollen gums surrounding decaying teeth.

Scraping or drilling can treat the cavities away the bacteria from the surface of the teeth. It is later filled by composite or amalgam material to match the appearance of natural tooth. Hence, If cavities are advanced beyond the surface then it will require a root canal procedure, if it is not cured through it then the treatment is tooth extraction.
