Tips for preventing bad breath while wearing braces

Braces are one of the best and most convenient ways for fixing your crooked teeth and getting that big straight smile that is picture-perfect. But that does not mean that you won’t be facing some issues after getting them installed in your oral region. Just after getting your braces, you will feel some changes happening in your oral region and this is because your body understands that an external object is introduced to it and starts adapting to it. But one of the biggest other problems was bad breath while wearing braces that comes along with it.

Why does bad breath occur after getting braces?

Bad breath in our mouth is caused due to the bacteria that is thriving in our mouth. This bacteria starts to grow from the leftover food that gets stuck between our teeth and doesn’t get off with just brushing.

When these remaining food particles are not properly removed, bacteria in our mouth start to feed themselves on them and this creates an unpleasant odor in our mouth. Gum diseases, poor oral hygiene, smoking, and drinking are some other reasons for bad breath.

Ways to prevent bad breath while having braces on

When you have braces on, keeping your oral hygiene at its best becomes even more of an important matter. Bad breath can signify that your oral hygiene is going in the wrong direction and hence, you need to prevent it at all costs.

Some ways to prevent bad breath while wearing braces on are as follows:

1.  Brushing and flossing

Brushing and flossing two times a day is the bare minimum that everyone has to do in order to maintain their oral hygiene. But this bare minimum increases after getting braces on. With braces, food can get even more easily stuck in your oral region. To make sure this doesn’t happen you have to brush accordingly and floss accordingly as well.

2. Take some antibacterial mouthwash

Antibacterial mouthwashes are one of the best add-ons over basic brushing and flossing. After brushing and flossing your teeth, you should use an antibacterial mouth wash. This I because a liquid antibacterial mouthwash can reach all the ends of your mouth that brushes and flosses can’t. Using it can ensure that there is no chance of bacteria growing in any part of your mouth.

3. Drink Water

Drinking water might not be a very new tip that you might be hearing, but it is the best thing in this case. A dry mouth is an open house for bacteria to thrive and grow. Constantly hydrating yourself would allow you to keep your mouth moist and safe from the growth of bacteria. Drinking water frequently will also help as a time-to-time cleanser for your mouth.

4. Consume the right food items

While having braces on, it is good practice to prevent eating strong-smelling substances containing food items. You should also prevent eating any sugary and sticky food items while having braces on as well. This will help you in preventing bad breath and tooth decay.
